A Community Collecting: Art from Northwest Detroit

The power of a neighborhood has been magnified in ART!   Many thanks to The Kresge Foundation and The Institute for Detroit Studies (IDS) at Marygrove College for another Defining Detroit event. “A Community Collecting: Art from Northwest Detroit” opened March 10, 2019 and the exhibition will end April 5, 2019. The featured artists are Monica Brown, Felle, Asia Hamilton, Donna Jackson, Chazz Miller, Darryl Smith and Megan White. These amazing artists are all part of Live6 Alliance’s successful Detroit Neighborhood Arts (DNA) Project, which is enhancing the walk-able areas and public places in a city transforming itself along commercial corridors of Livernois Avenue and McNichols Road through mural making, public art and beautification.

This exhibition reflects the outstanding talent of Detroit artists and their rich interpretations that are rooted in hometown nostalgia and worldly finesse.   Each work managed to balance the thin line of inspiration and creativity that would astonish both Detroiters and global art enthusiast alike.

Well-done IDS! Can’t wait to see more!
